CREAD, the Algerian public research institution in applied economics for development, has been a public scientific and technological institution (EPST) since 2003. It operates under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MESRS) and has an intersectoral mandate.

Established in December 1985, CREAD inherited the scientific heritage and resources of the former CREA (Center for Research in Applied Economics). Over the years, it has been led by several directors and is currently headed by Dr. Moundir LASSASSI.

CREAD’s research activities encompass various areas, including development economics, social and labor economy, economics of education, natural resources and environment, agro-economy, rural economy, international economy, and foreign trade. It collaborates with socio-economic partners and national/international scientific institutions to design and conduct research projects and surveys. Additionally, CREAD undertakes studies and research on behalf of public and private institutions, both domestic and foreign, utilizing internal and external expertise to address diverse economic and socio-economic topics.
